3D-visualisation of a typical suffosive soil sample (edge length 5 cm)
The aim of the SUFFOS project, which is supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG), is to study suffosion processes in gradated soils.
Soil structures will be visualised und parameterised. The appropriate image processing algorithms are developed by the Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB). Additionally gain of scientific insights is expected by the 3D modelling of pore structure performed by the University of Applied Sciences Leipzig (HTWK). Percolation models are used for simulation of transport and clogging processes within the pore network (Bauhaus Universität Weimar).
The main purpose is the numerical simulation of the erosion phenomena to derive suffosion criteria and boundary conditions based on the statistical data.
Project duration: August 2007 - October 2010
